Do I need an account or subscription?

How does the background removal work?

An AI segmentation model (U-2-Net) runs online, predicting which pixels belong to the subject and which belong to the background, then masks the background out. Nothing runs in your browser, so it works the same on any device.

What kinds of photos work best?

Photos with a clear, distinct subject (people, products, animals) against a reasonably contrasting background give the cleanest cutouts. Busy scenes, fine hair and semi-transparent objects like glass are harder and may leave rough edges.

Why is the output a PNG?

PNG supports full alpha transparency, so the erased background stays genuinely transparent when you place the cutout over another image or color. JPG can't store transparency, so a JPG output would fill the background with solid white instead.
