Does this write a new summary or pull from the original text?

It writes a new summary. A third-party AI provider reads the extracted text and generates a written summary of the key points, rather than copying sentences verbatim from your document.

Does my PDF get uploaded anywhere?

Yes. Your file uploads over an encrypted connection so its text can be extracted and sent to a third-party AI provider, which generates the summary. That provider does not use your content to train its models. Universal PDF is verified clean by Google Safe Browsing, and files transfer over encrypted (TLS) connections.

Will this work on a scanned PDF?

Only if the PDF already contains selectable text. Scanned or photographed pages have no underlying text layer, so this tool can't read them. Run the file through OCR PDF or Image to Text first, then summarize the result.

Do I need a subscription?
