Form TD1YT, the Yukon Personal Tax Credits Return, is what employees and pensioners in the Yukon give their payer so the correct amount of territorial income tax comes off each payment. It is completed in addition to the federal TD1: two forms, two layers of tax, one onboarding packet.

The Universal PDF editor handles the whole job in the browser. Load the current year's TD1YT, enter your claim amounts and any extra withholding request, sign on screen, and download the completed PDF for your employer.

What is Form TD1YT used for

The TD1YT records the Yukon credits you expect to claim for the year, and your total claim amount drives the territorial payroll deduction tables. The Yukon is distinctive in how closely its credits track the federal ones: the territory matches the federal basic personal amount, including its income-tested calculation, and mirrors the federal Canada caregiver structure rather than using the simpler caregiver line found on most provincial forms.

Because of that mirroring, the TD1YT reads more like the federal TD1 than any other provincial or territorial variant, with caregiver amounts for infirm children under 18 and for adult dependants appearing as separate lines.

Who fills out Form TD1YT

Complete a TD1YT when you start a job with the Yukon as your territory of employment, when you begin pension income as a Yukon resident, when your entitlements change, or when you want additional tax deducted from each pay. It accompanies the federal TD1 rather than replacing it.

Workers who only claim the basic personal amount and have no changes to report can rely on the default; employers apply the Yukon basic amount when no form is on file.

How to fill out Form TD1YT

Use the current year's version, since the Yukon updates its amounts in step with federal indexing. The lines follow the federal pattern:

  • Line 1: the Yukon basic personal amount, which matches the federal figure. If your income exceeds the threshold on the form, use the worksheet to calculate a partial amount.
  • Line 2: the caregiver amount for infirm children under age 18, claimed per child.
  • Line 3: the age amount for those 65 or older by year end, within the form's income limit.
  • Line 4: the pension income amount for eligible pension or annuity income.
  • Line 5: tuition amounts for eligible study, calculated per the form.
  • Line 6: the disability amount if you are eligible for the disability tax credit.
  • Lines 7 to 10: the spouse or common-law partner amount, the amount for an eligible dependant, and the caregiver amounts for infirm dependants, arranged as on the federal TD1.
  • Lines 11 and 12: amounts transferred from your spouse or common-law partner or from a dependant.
  • Final line: the total claim amount, then sign and date. Page 2 collects the multiple employer checkbox, the low income exemption, and any request for extra withholding.

When to give it to your employer or payer

Turn in the TD1YT to your employer or pension payer along with your federal TD1 when payments begin, and file a revised form within seven days whenever your entitlements change. The form never goes to the CRA.

Multiple Yukon employers at once means one form carries your claims; the others get a zero total with the more than one employer box ticked. And remember the northern residents deduction is federal, claimed via the prescribed zone line on the federal TD1 and on your annual return, not on the TD1YT.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, both. The federal TD1 sets federal withholding while the TD1YT sets the Yukon territorial portion, and Yukon employers normally collect the two together from new hires.
