Frequently asked questions

Do I need to choose the language my document is written in?

No. The AI provider automatically detects the source language from the extracted text, so you only choose the language to translate into.

Will the translated file keep my original document's layout?

No. This tool returns a new plain-text and Word document containing the translated text, not a copy of your original file with the text swapped in. Formatting, images, page layout, and design are not preserved.

Does my file get uploaded anywhere?

Yes. Your file uploads over an encrypted connection so its text can be extracted and sent to a third-party AI provider, which generates the translation. That provider does not use your content to train its models. Universal PDF is verified clean by Google Safe Browsing, and files transfer over encrypted (TLS) connections.

Which file types are supported?

PDF, DOCX, TXT, RTF, ODT, and EPUB. Scanned or photographed PDFs have no extractable text layer, so run them through OCR PDF first, then translate the result.

Do I need a subscription?

Yes. Universal PDF requires a Pro subscription; one subscription unlocks every tool on the site, and you can cancel anytime.
