Frequently asked questions

Do I need an account or subscription?

Universal PDF requires a Pro subscription. One subscription unlocks every tool on the site, cancel anytime.

Which video formats can I convert?

MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM and AVI all work. The converter decodes the source with ffmpeg, so most common codecs inside those containers are handled automatically, with no need to convert to MP4 first.

Why is the GIF larger than my video?

GIF has no modern video compression, so a GIF is often several times larger than the source clip. We cap output at 12fps and 480px wide to keep sizes reasonable; if it's still too big, run it through our GIF compressor.

Will the GIF quality match the video?

GIF is limited to 256 colors per frame, so smooth gradients can band slightly. We generate a custom palette per file to minimize this, and typical clips (screen recordings, reactions, short demos) come out looking crisp.
