Form TD1SK, the Saskatchewan Personal Tax Credits Return, is what tells an employer or pension payer in Saskatchewan how much provincial income tax to withhold. It never travels alone: the TD1SK is completed in addition to the federal TD1, with the two forms covering the provincial and federal halves of your payroll deductions respectively.

Skip the paper version and complete the current year's TD1SK in the Universal PDF editor instead. Fill in each line on screen, sign, download the PDF, and pass it to payroll with your federal form.

What is Form TD1SK used for

Your total claim amount on the TD1SK plugs into the Saskatchewan payroll deduction tables and determines how much provincial tax comes off every cheque. The form lists the provincial non-refundable credits you expect for the year, from the basic personal amount through to caregiver and transfer amounts.

Saskatchewan's form stands out for two credits most provinces do not offer at source. The senior supplementary amount gives residents age 65 or over an extra claim on top of the age amount, and the child amount lets parents claim a set amount for each dependent child under 18, both at the values printed on the current year's form.

Who fills out Form TD1SK

Anyone starting work where the province of employment is Saskatchewan, anyone beginning pension income as a Saskatchewan resident, and anyone whose provincial credit entitlements have changed should complete a TD1SK for their payer. It also serves people who want more tax deducted to cover other income.

As with every provincial TD1, filing is only mandatory when you claim beyond the basic personal amount or your situation changes. Otherwise the employer applies the basic amount automatically.

How to fill out Form TD1SK

Amounts are indexed annually, so start from the current year's version. The lines to work through:

  • Line 1: the Saskatchewan basic personal amount from the current year's form.
  • Line 2: the age amount if you will be 65 or older at year end and your income is under the form's threshold.
  • Line 3: the senior supplementary amount, an additional claim for Saskatchewan residents age 65 or over regardless of income.
  • Line 4: the pension income amount for eligible pension or annuity income.
  • Line 5: tuition amounts if you are enrolled at an eligible institution, following the form's calculation.
  • Line 6: the disability amount for disability tax credit holders.
  • Line 7: the child amount for each dependent child under 18, a Saskatchewan-specific claim.
  • Lines 8 and 9: the spouse or common-law partner amount and the amount for an eligible dependant, income-tested as described on the form.
  • Line 10: the caregiver amount for infirm dependants age 18 or older.
  • Lines 11 and 12: amounts transferred from a spouse, common-law partner, or dependant, then total everything on the last line and sign.

When to give it to your employer or payer

Hand the finished TD1SK to your employer or pension payer with your federal TD1 when payments begin. A change in entitlements, a child turning 18, a marriage, a move into or out of the province, means a new form within seven days.

Working for two Saskatchewan employers at once? Only one TD1SK carries your credit claims. Check the more than one employer box on the other and enter zero for the total, or you risk under-withholding.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. The federal TD1 sets federal withholding and the TD1SK sets the Saskatchewan portion, so new employees in the province normally submit both to their employer at the same time.
