Form TD1PE is the Prince Edward Island Personal Tax Credits Return, the form that tells an Island employer or pension payer how much PEI income tax to withhold from each payment. It is one half of a pair: you complete the TD1PE in addition to the federal TD1, since each form controls a different layer of your payroll deductions.

Universal PDF turns the TD1PE into a few minutes of typing. Open the current year's form in the editor, enter your claim amounts, sign on screen, and download the completed PDF ready to hand to payroll.

What is Form TD1PE used for

Prince Edward Island applies provincial income tax with its own credit amounts, and the TD1PE tallies the provincial credits you expect to claim into a single total claim amount. Your payer reads that total against the PEI payroll deduction tables to set the provincial tax on every cheque.

PEI has been raising its basic personal amount in recent years, so working from the current year's version of the form matters more than usual here; an old copy can understate your claim and leave too much tax coming off your pay.

Who fills out Form TD1PE

Complete a TD1PE when you start a job with Prince Edward Island as your province of employment, when you begin receiving a pension while living on the Island, when your credit entitlements change, or when you want extra tax deducted at source. Seasonal workers who split the year between provinces should note the form follows where they are employed, not where they spend the winter.

As elsewhere, the form is optional if you claim only the basic personal amount and nothing has changed; employers apply the PEI basic amount by default.

How to fill out Form TD1PE

With the current year's version open, the claims run in the familiar order:

  • Line 1: the Prince Edward Island basic personal amount printed on the current year's form.
  • Line 2: the age amount if you will be 65 or older on December 31 and your income is within the limit on the form.
  • Line 3: the pension income amount for eligible pension or annuity income.
  • Line 4: tuition amounts for eligible study, calculated as the form instructs.
  • Line 5: the disability amount if you qualify for the disability tax credit.
  • Lines 6 and 7: the spouse or common-law partner amount and the amount for an eligible dependant, both reduced by the dependant's income.
  • Line 8: the caregiver amount for an infirm dependant age 18 or older.
  • Lines 9 and 10: amounts transferred from your spouse or common-law partner or from a dependant.
  • Total line: sum the claims, then sign and date. Page 2 handles multiple employers, the low income exemption, and requests for additional withholding.

When to give it to your employer or payer

The signed TD1PE goes to your employer or pension payer with your federal TD1 at the start of payments, and again within seven days of any change to your entitlements. No copy goes to the CRA.

Two Island jobs at the same time means claiming your provincial amounts through one employer only. On the second form, check the more than one employer box and enter zero as the total claim.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. The TD1PE covers only Prince Edward Island provincial tax, so employers on the Island collect it together with the federal TD1 from new employees.
