The downsizer contribution into superannuation form (NAT 75073) notifies your super fund that a contribution you are making comes from the proceeds of selling your home under the downsizer rules. The timing matters: the signed form must reach your fund before or when the contribution arrives. Without it, the fund treats the money as a personal contribution, and it counts towards your contribution caps.
You can fill out NAT 75073 in the Universal PDF editor, entering your fund details, personal details, and contribution amount, then download the completed PDF to sign and send to your fund. Downsizer eligibility rules, including the age requirement and the per person contribution limit, are set by law and updated over time, so confirm the current requirements and form version on ato.gov.au before contributing.
What the form does
Downsizer contributions let eligible people contribute proceeds from the sale of their home to superannuation outside the usual contribution caps. This form is the required election: it tells the fund to classify the money as a downsizer contribution rather than a personal one.
The declaration you sign confirms you understand the key consequences, including that a downsizer contribution counts as a superannuation asset for the age pension means test, and that you cannot claim a personal super contribution deduction for it.
Who uses it
People who have sold an eligible home, meet the age and ownership conditions for the downsizer measure, and want to put some of the proceeds into super. Each person makes their own election, so members of a couple contributing separately each complete their own form.
An agent, intermediary, or authorised representative can prepare the form on someone's behalf, completing the separate declaration in Section E to confirm they acted on information supplied by the applicant.
How to fill out NAT 75073
The form has five short sections:
- Section A: your super fund's name and your member number.
- Section B: your tax file number, full name, postal address, date of birth, and contact details. If the fund does not already hold your TFN and you do not provide it, the fund cannot accept the contribution.
- Section C: the amount of your downsizer contribution. Amounts above the legislated cap will not be accepted as downsizer contributions.
- Section D: read the declaration carefully, then print your name, sign, and date it.
- Section E: only completed when an agent or authorised representative prepared the form for you.
Where the form goes
Send the signed form to your superannuation fund, not to the ATO. It must arrive before or at the same time as the contribution itself. The ATO does not collect the form; it simply provides the format funds rely on.
If the ATO later finds the contribution did not meet the downsizer eligibility requirements, it notifies the fund, which then assesses whether the amount can stand as a personal contribution against your caps or must be returned.
Frequently asked questions
The fund treats the money as a personal contribution, which counts towards your contribution caps. The form must be given to the fund before or when the contribution is made to secure downsizer treatment.
Yes. The downsizer measure has a per person cap set by law, and the form states that amounts above it will not be accepted as downsizer contributions. Check the current cap and eligibility conditions on ato.gov.au before you contribute.
No. The declaration you sign specifically confirms that a personal super contribution deduction cannot be claimed for a downsizer contribution.
It can. Once inside super it is counted as a superannuation asset for the age pension means test, which is one of the acknowledgements in the declaration. Consider advice from a licensed financial adviser before contributing.
Each contributing person completes and signs their own form for their own contribution, since the eligibility rules and the cap apply per person.
