Form IMM 5748, Income Sources for the Sponsorship of Parents and Grandparents, records where a sponsor's income comes from and authorizes Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada to collect the sponsor's income information directly from the Canada Revenue Agency. IRCC uses that CRA data to confirm the sponsor meets the financial requirement of the Parents and Grandparents Program.
IMM 5748 is a dynamic XFA form and only opens in Adobe Acrobat Reader on a computer. Download the official PDF from this page, save it, and open the saved file in Acrobat Reader; opening it in a browser shows a placeholder page rather than the form. Check canada.ca for the current version before submitting, since IRCC retires old versions.
What is Form IMM 5748 used for
The Parents and Grandparents Program requires proof of income over several taxation years, and IRCC relies on CRA records as the authoritative source. IMM 5748 provides the sponsor's consent for that data sharing and itemizes the sources of income the sponsor is relying on, such as employment, self-employment, or other reportable income.
Without valid consent, IRCC cannot confirm income electronically, which stalls or ends the application. The form therefore functions as both a disclosure and an authorization.
Who completes IMM 5748
Every person whose income is being counted toward the requirement completes and signs the consent.
- The sponsor applying under the Parents and Grandparents Program.
- A co-signing spouse or common-law partner whose income is combined with the sponsor's.
- Sponsors in other family classes, such as spousal sponsorship, do not use this form.
How to fill out IMM 5748
Open your saved copy in Adobe Acrobat Reader, complete each field, and validate the form before printing. The details must let the CRA match you accurately, so precision matters more than anywhere else in the package.
- Enter your name exactly as it appears in your CRA records, along with your date of birth and social insurance number where the form requires it.
- Identify your income sources for the taxation years IRCC specifies for your intake.
- The co-signer completes and signs their own consent section when applicable.
- Sign and date the printed form by hand; an unsigned consent is invalid.
How the CRA consent works
With your authorization, IRCC obtains income figures for the relevant taxation years directly from the CRA and compares them with the financial evaluation you provide on form IMM 5768. That is why sponsors should file their tax returns on time and use notice of assessment figures when completing the financial evaluation.
If your taxes for a required year are not filed or contain errors, resolve that with the CRA before applying. An RCIC or immigration lawyer can advise if your tax situation is unusual, for example significant self-employment or foreign income.
Frequently asked questions
The form is a dynamic XFA PDF, which browsers cannot display, so a placeholder appears instead. Download the PDF, then open the saved file in Adobe Acrobat Reader on a computer to complete it.
Tax information is protected, so the CRA can only share your income data with IRCC if you authorize it. IMM 5748 provides that authorization for assessing your sponsorship's financial requirement.
Yes. Anyone whose income counts toward the requirement, including a co-signing spouse or common-law partner, must provide their own signed consent so the CRA can release their records too.
IRCC will not be able to verify income for that year, which can lead to refusal on financial grounds. File the missing return with the CRA and wait for the notice of assessment before relying on that year.
No. IMM 5768 is the financial evaluation where you calculate family size and income; IMM 5748 lists income sources and authorizes CRA verification. Parents and grandparents sponsorship packages generally require both.
